(1) Portfolio:作品
The applicants’ ability to express themselves visually is an important part of the portfolio review. The portfolio may include school assignments as well as work completed on their own. THE APPLICANT’S ABILITY TO DRAW WELL IS ESSENTIAL and should be demonstrated in a variety of forms. The portfolio will be judged on creativity, originality and the potential for the applicant to complete the 4-year program. The portfolio should be organized to include a variety of work demonstrating 2D and 3D potential (may be in a variety of media but work must include pencil, ink and coloured media). As well, the portfolio must include the following:
The following items must be in black and white:
- A freehand drawing of a staircase;
- A freehand drawing of a collection of organic material (e.g., leaves, pods);
- A freehand drawing of a tubular structure (e.g., bic缉畅光堆叱瞪癸缺含画ycle, metal chair);
There is no limit to the items put in a portfolio.
A statement of a maximum of twenty-five words identifying each item is also required. All work shall be neatly assembled in an 81/2” x 11” portfolio, stapled on the top left side of the page. Applicants are NOT TO INCLUDE ORIGINAL WORK - inexpensively reproduced drawings, photographs, reductions, and photocopies are acceptable and desired. Applicants should have a cover page identifying the applicant’s name, reference number and complete contact information (i.e., address, phone, email, etc.)
(2) Personal Essay:个人文章
FOR MAIL - IN OPTION ONLY. This is the applicant’s opportunity to convince the committee of their seriousness and the appropriateness of them studying at Ryerson University. This assignment should be thought through carefully. The essay should include a description of the applicant’s background, their intended career goals and educational objectives and should answer the question “Why do you want to be an Interior Designer?” It should represent a clear and accurate picture of them as a person, their talents and abilities, with an indication as to how attending Ryerson’s School of Interior Design will help them to fulfill their goals.
(3) Design Test:设计考试
FOR MAIL - IN OPTION ONLY. The applicant will be on their personal honor to complete this test within the given timeframe allotted of 6 hours. The format for submitting the completed design test should be no larger than an 81/2” x 11”, stapled together with a cover page indicating the applicant’s name, reference number and complete contact information (i.e., address, phone, email, etc.).
